2011–12 Week 2

To date the Club has registered about 887 members, a decrease of 123 members from last year. The Executive would like to thank all of our volunteers who assisted with our 2011-2012 registration.

Members may have noticed we have a new Club website, thanks to Ryan Howe for providing his expertise in IT to us. Members with ideas about additional changes they would like to see are invited to send an email to the Club or leave us a phone message. .

The Club’s first dance of the year is Harvest Swing, which will be held on Saturday, October 15 at TCU Place. Dress is casual to semi-formal (i.e. no jeans or shorts). In-class ticket sales end this week on Thursday September 29th. Member tickets are $20 and non-member tickets are $30. Ticket order forms are available on-lin. You may purchase tickets in a class other than your own, at either the start or end of the class.

Tickets are also available for two weeks on Picatic (www.picatic.com) from September 25 to October 7. Picatic charges a commission for purchasing tickets online.

To purchase tickets in class, please:

  • Fill out a ticket order form, including your class number and membership card number,
  • Put your completed form and payment (cash or cheque only) in the ticket order envelope, and
  • Put your envelope in the large class return envelope and sign your name and write your phone number on the attached sheet. Tickets will be returned to your class starting the week of October 2rd. Classes on Sunday and Monday are reminded to pick up their tickets in the first week because there are no classes on the Thanksgiving weekend.

Allison has been the Club’s Financial Officer for the past three years and her term is coming to an end. At the General Meeting in December, the Club will need to elect a new Financial Officer. Familiarity with simply accounting would be beneficial but not required. If you think you might be interested, please do not hesitate to contact the Club or her at allison.bdc@gmail.com for more information. While we know December is a way off, we want to ensure that Club members already start to consider if they will let their name stand for any of our Executive positions.

The church parking lot (E side of the building) is reserved for people attending church functions. We have been asked to keep that parking lot free. If you are parked there now, please move your vehicle. Thanks for helping us maintain a good relationship with the church staff.

The dance this term will be Foxtrot. As always, the first term team is restricted to members in Advanced Classes. Dean Jones and Bernadette Deptuch will be the instructors, with registration and the first class scheduled for Wednesday September 28 at Grosvenor Park United Church. Registration is at 8.00 p.m. and the class starts at 8:45. Registration forms are available on-line. The price of registration will be $70, which includes the cost of the Mistletoes Ball. Bring your membership card and your payment and be prepared to dance on the 23rd. Everyone planning to be in Dance Team must be there on registration night!
