2011–12 Week 3

HARVEST SWING

Tickets ordered in class will be distributed this week and next. Tickets may also be picked up at other BDC class locations on days when classes are offered there, if you specified the other location and day in your order. However, Thursday, October 13 is the last day for pick up. Remember to sign for your tickets (on the large brown envelope) when you pick them up. Harvest Swing is on October 15 at TCU Place. Doors open at 8:30 p.m., dancing from 9:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. Please note that the coat check is not free, so bring some loose change if you plan to check a coat. You can still purchase tickets for Harvest Swing until October 13 on Picatic (www.picatic.com). There is a direct link to purchase tickets from Picatic on our website. If you purchase a ticket on Picatic at the member price you will be required to produce your membership card at the door so please remember to bring it with you. Class Cancellations: No classes will be held Sunday October 10 or Monday October 11 due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Therefore Sunday and Monday classes must pick up Harvest Swing tickets this week.

PRACTICE SESSIONS

Remember you can work on what you have learned in class by going to Club practice sessions at Grosvenor Park United Church. One session is held on Mondays from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m., the other on Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. These sessions are open to any Club member. There is no formal instruction but an instructor will usually be present to answer your questions and give you help.

NAME TAGS AND MEMBERSHIP CARDS

Please wear your name tags in class but put them back in the box at the end of class as they are not meant to go home with you. Also, please bring your membership card to each class as you may be asked by the instructors to show it as proof of registration in that class. Take care of your membership card as you need it to be admitted to workshops or to buy dance tickets.

FOOTWEAR

Due to the nature of dance and the need for appropriate footwear, we ask our members to wear shoes at their class that are not only comfortable but also are ones that you would wear at any of our dances This allows members to become accustomed to dancing in shoes other than their street shoes. Please make sure that your shoes are clean and dry, particularly as we move into fall and winter. This will ensure a clean floor for everyone to dance on. Thank you for your assistance.

PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE

Due to the fact that dancing requires people to be in close proximity to one another we ask the membership to be considerate of others and refrain from wearing strong scented perfumes or colognes to class. As well, we encourage our members to practice good personal hygiene as another way to demonstrate respect for your dance partners. Your cooperation in this manner is greatly appreciated.

LOOK AFTER YOUR POSSESSIONS

If you bring dance shoes, water bottles, sweaters, etc. to class please remember to take them home at the end of your class. Lost and found items are kept at each location so ask your instructor if you left something behind at a previous class.

FINANCIAL OFFICER REQUIRED

Allison has been the Club’s Financial Officer for the past three years and her term is coming to an end. At the General Meeting in December, the Club will need to elect a new volunteer Financial Officer. Familiarity with simply accounting would be beneficial but not required. If you think you might be interested, please do not hesitate to contact the Club or her at allison.bdc@gmail.com for more information. While we know December is a way off, we want to ensure that Club members already start to consider if they will let their name stand for any of our Executive positions.

ADVANCED AND INTERMEDIATE CLASSES ONLY

DANCE TEAM

There are a few more openings in dance team. Members currently registered in an Advanced class or members who are currently registered in an Intermediate class BUT have completed an ADVANCED class in the last two years or members who have been in at least two other Dance Teams are invited to join. Registration is this Wednesday October 5th at 8:30 pm, Grosvenor Park United Church. The cost is $70, which includes a ticket to Mistletoes. Registration forms are available for download on the Club's web site. Bring your membership card and payment. Class starts at 8:45 pm.

People usually join with a partner, but individuals are welcome to come on Wednesday and pair up with other individuals who wish to join.

Grosvenor Park United Church Only

The parking lot behind the church is reserved for people attending church functions. The church administration has specifically asked that dancers keep that parking lot free. If you are parked there now, please move your vehicle. Thanks for helping us keep a good relationship with the church staff!

ADVERTISING BY OTHER DANCE GROUPS

Members of the Club are reminded that BDC policy prohibits the distribution, posting or announcing of advertisements of activities of any other dance group in our classes or at facilities we rent for workshops or dances. This rule will be strictly enforced; it is designed to ensure fair treatment to all groups. Dance groups wishing to draw attention to their programs are invited to email the U of S BDC to establish a link from our website to theirs.
