2011–12 Week 4

HARVEST SWING

This week is the last chance for you to pick up the tickets you ordered in class. Remember to sign for your tickets (on the large brown envelope) when you pick them up.

Harvest Swing is on Saturday October 15 at TCU Place. Doors open at 8:30 p.m., dancing from 9:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. Bring two dollars if you plan to check a coat at the coat check.

If you bought your ticket on Picatic remember to take your BDC member card to Harvest Swing as proof of your membership.

CLUB WORKSHOPS

The Club's first member workshops will be held Saturday and Sunday, October 22nd and 23rd. Attending a workshop is free but you must have your membership card with you to attend. The sessions will be taught by our Principal Instructor, Michael Milette and the dance taught this time will be waltz at all three levels. The sessions on Sunday will be the same as those on Saturday, but the times and sequence of levels differ. Please consult the poster on the music cabinet in class or the Club website for details. If you wish to take a second workshop, the cost is $10.00. You may not transfer your membership to allow another person to take your place at the workshop.

The workshop will be held at Holliston School, 1511 Louise Avenue, south of 8th Street. Use the entrance on the south side of the building. Nancy’s Dancin' from Regina is not available to sell dance shoes during the workshops.

PRACTICE SESSIONS

Remember you can practice what you have learned in class by going to Club practice sessions at Grosvenor Park United Church. One session is held on Mondays from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m., the other on Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. These sessions are open to any Club member, as they are included with your membership. There is no formal instruction but an instructor will usually be present to answer your questions and give you help.

EXECUTIVE POSITIONS

As you realize, the Club owes its low membership fees to the high level of volunteerism among members. Our instructors and Executive members are volunteers and volunteers are used for many other functions, such as registration in the fall. The Club by-laws dictate that all executive positions are open for election every year at a general meeting at the end of November. No person may be elected to the same executive position for more than three years.

If you want further information about responsibilities associated with Executive positions, please send an email to the Club and it will be directed to the appropriate person to provide details.

GPUC ONLY

COURTESY TO OTHERS

BDC members are asked to be mindful of the fact that other groups rent rooms at GPUC at times which overlap with BDC classes. When leaving class, please keep your voice down when chatting with other members and do not talk on your cell phone in the hallways. Please do not disrupt other groups classes or meetings. Respect their need for peace and quiet by saving the chatter and phone calls until you have left the building.
