The Club’s first dance of the year is Harvest Swing, which will be held on Saturday, October 13 at TCU Place, doors open at 7pm, dancing from 7:30-pm to midnight. Music by the U of S BDC Club. Dress is casual to semi-formal (i.e. no jeans or shorts).
Tickets purchased in class will be returned on September 30th.
Tickets for purchase are still available online on Picatic (http://www.picatic.com/event13483472447027) until October 9th.
No classes will be held Sunday October 7th or Monday October 8th due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Therefore Sunday and Monday classes must pick up Harvest Swing tickets this week.
Remember you can work on what you have learned in class by going to the Club practice session held at Albert Community Centre, Third Level, on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:00pm. This session is open to any Club member. There is no formal instruction but an instructor will be present to answer your questions and assist you.
NAME TAGS AND MEMBERSHIP CARDS
Please wear your name tags in class and return them to the box at the end of class, as they are not meant to go home with you. Also, please bring your membership card to each class as you may be asked by the instructors to show it as proof of registration in that class. Take care of your membership card as you need it to be admitted to workshops, the beginner dance or to buy dance tickets.
Due to the nature of dance and the need for appropriate footwear, we ask our members wear shoes in class that you would wear to any of our dances. This allows members to become accustomed to dancing in shoes other than their street shoes. Please make sure that your shoes are clean and dry, particularly as we move into fall and winter. This will ensure a clean floor for everyone to dance on. Thank you for your assistance.
PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE
Due to the fact that dancing requires people to be in close proximity to one another we ask the membership to be considerate of others and refrain from wearing strong scented perfumes or colognes to class. As well, we encourage our members to practice good personal hygiene as another way to demonstrate respect for your dance partners. Your cooperation in this manner is greatly appreciated.
LOOK AFTER YOUR POSSESSIONS
If you bring dance shoes, water bottles, sweaters, etc. to class please remember to take them home at the end of your class. Lost and found items are kept at each location so ask your instructor if you left something behind at a previous class.
PRESIDENT, VICE-PRESIDENT, SOCIAL COORDINATOR, and GENERAL MEMBER AT LARGE REQUIRED
All members, including newer members, are invited to run for any position on the Executive. Please consider allowing your name to stand for one of the above four positions. The position of Vice-President is vacant and can be filled prior to our General Membership meeting in December. Brief details on the duties of each Executive member are available on our Club website. For additional information please contact the Club and the appropriate Executive member will return your inquiry.
VOLUNTEER BOOK-KEEPER REQUIRED
The Club is in need of a volunteer to assist the Financial Officer in recording financial records for the Club. This is the perfect opportunity for a SIAST or University student, who is looking to gain experience in accounting. Familiarity with simply accounting would be beneficial but not required. If you are interested, please submit your resume to firstname.lastname@example.org by October 13th, 2012.

ADVANCED AND INTERMEDIATE CLASSES ONLY
There are a few more openings in dance team. Leads and couples currently registered in an Advanced class or members who have completed one year at the Intermediate level are invited to join. Registration is this Wednesday October 3rd at 8:30 pm, Grosvenor Park United Church. The cost is $70, which includes a ticket to Mistletoes. Registration forms are available for download on the Club's website. Bring your membership card and payment. Class starts at 8:45 pm.
ADVERTISING BY OTHER DANCE GROUPS
Members of the Club are reminded that BDC policy prohibits the distribution, posting or announcing of advertisements of activities of any other dance group in our classes or at facilities we rent for workshops or dances. This rule will be strictly enforced; it is designed to ensure fair treatment to all groups. Dance groups wishing to draw attention to their programs are invited to email the U of S BDC to establish a reciprocal link or to post their event on the Club’s facebook page.
