Announcements for Week 1

Welcome to Our Club

Hello and welcome to all of our new and returning members to the University of Saskatchewan Ballroom Dancing Club. We are looking forward to another year of fun, learning, and dancing. For our new members, we hope you will enjoy your experience with the club and stick around; and for our returning members it is great to see everyone again.

A few housekeeping notes for the year:

  • Bring clean non-marking shoes to class so that the floors don’t get dirty.
  • Don’t wear scents; many people are allergic or sensitive.
  • All of our instructors are volunteers.
  • Everyone is in class to learn; it’s okay (and normal) if you don’t get everything immediately.
  • Don’t fret if you miss a class. You’ll have more fun, and learn more by attending the next class than worrying about the last one. If you fall a bit behind, the best way to catch up is in class.

Membership Cards

We are working on preparing your member cards. Cards will be available in the next couple weeks in one of the classes you are registered in. Your member card number would have been in your registration e-mail if you need it immediately. Your membership card is used to grant you entrance to your weekly class. Please don’t lose it! You can take a picture of it with your phone; or laminate it to keep it safe. It is also the most convenient way to access our dances, workshops and other events.

Class Transfers

If you are finding the time of your class or level of your class is not working out, you are able to put in a transfer request by filling out the form on our website). Class transfer requests are subject to both executive and instructor approval and there are no refunds for transferring to a lower level class.

Keeping up with Club Events

All our announcements and event information will be posted on our website ( for easy access. We also encourage you follow us on Twitter (@uofsbdc) and like our Facebook page for up-to-date information on workshops, dances and events.

Online Registration Continues

Registration for classes online will continue for this week and will end after Saturday, September 15th, 2018.

Late in Person Registration

There will be one last in person registration for classes this week on Friday, September 14th, 2018. We will be taking registrations at the Open StoreFront in Confederation Mall from 6:30pm — 8:30pm.

Members Dance Team Registration

The members dance performance team will be learning and performing a Waltz routine at our Mistletoes Ball formal dance in November. Intermediate and advanced dancers are welcomed to join this performance taught by Bernadette and Gee. Classes are Wednesdays at Trinity Hall from 8:30pm - 10:00 pm starting Wednesday, September 19th, 2018. Registration will take place before the first class of the term from 8:00pm - 8:30pm. Cost is $125 and includes a dinner dance ticket to Mistletoes.

Specialty Class Registration

We offer a specialty class for our members that may be interested in topics other than what is taught in class. This term the specialty class will be West Coast Swing. This is for members who would like to become more confident in their West Coast Swing basics, introducing basic patterns, using drills to sharpen skills & technique. Come and find out what makes this dance so popular. Taught by Ken & Tanya, the first night of the specialty class will be Thursday, September 20th, 2018 at 8:00pm at the Nutana Legion. The cost is $60 for the first term and registration will take place before the first class from 7:30pm - 8:00pm.

September Monthly Dance

The first monthly dance of the dance year is Saturday, September 29th, 2018 from 7:00pm - 10:00pm at Trinity Orthodox Hall. The price is $5 for members, $10 for non-members accompanied with a member. Cash payment will be taken at the door. Please remember your member cards and clean non-marking shoes.

Practice Session

Our practice session is held Thursdays at Grosvenor Park United Church from 7:45pm till 8:45pm. The first practice session will be held Thursday, September 20th, 2018.


We are excited to announce an update to our volunteer perk policy. All volunteers who donate 6 or more hours of their time to the club will receive: an invitation to early registration in July for the upcoming dance year, a Volunteer Collector’s piece of club merchandise (selected by the executive each year) and complimentary entry to the next years monthly dances (note that perks are non-transferable).

If you are interested in volunteering with the club please contact our volunteer coordinator on our website. We are looking for help:

  • At dances
  • At workshops
  • With registration
  • Advertising events

Volunteer Lead / Follow Program

Our club is always looking for leads and follows to help balance out role ratios in our classes. If you are interested in helping balance classes please fill out the volunteer lead/follow form on our website and return to the club. Volunteers will be assigned based on availability on form and instructor requests. For more information on the program visit our website.

Executive Positions to Fill

We currently have vacant executive positions and are looking for interested members to contact our president to learn more about the roles. We are looking for:

  • Director of Marketing and Communications: focused on digital and social marketing of the club involving graphic art design and creative writing.
  • Student Member at Large: focused on representing the interests of our members that are attending Post-Secondary education. They will work closely with the General Members at Large.
